Epic Games ditch Fortnite from Samsung Galaxy Store due to sideloading restrictions
Samsung is now shifting its focus to making its grip more secure on app installation. Due to concern regarding unauthorized applications, it introduced “Auto Blocker’ with One UI 6.1.1.
The Auto Blocker feature prevents users from sideloading applications from unauthorized sources and blocks any commands or software updates sent via USB. This feature leads to a boost in security, and as a result, Epic Games has removed Fortnite from the Galaxy Store.
Epic Games has ditched Fortnite from the Galaxy Store following Samsung’s decision to block sideloaded applications. These steps transparently hint at the concern between app developers and device manufacturers regarding app distribution control.
A report also suggests that the reason behind this decision was also due to “ongoing Google proposals to Samsung to restrain competition in the market for Android app distribution.”
A post on X, shared by Tim Sweeney, suggested this new strategy. The change comes as Epic Games also plans to bring its games to other mobile stores on iOS in the EU, for instance, AltStore and additional third parties. However, apart from this, there are no other reports regarding the future markets where Fortnite and other Epic Games titles will reside.
Noticeably, the new automatic blocking feature Samsung has introduced recently is not a new concept. Since Android smartphones have been trying to prevent installs from third-party sources for so long, this means that its new feature is an extra layer of security.
If you want to download Fortnite-like apps, you can easily do so via the Epic Games site, for which you have to disable auto-blocking for a while.
