Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 focuses on GPU energy efficiency instead of CPU performance
Samsung is now looking forward to expanding its Galaxy S series by introducing a new lineup, the Galaxy S25 series. The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s chip will focus on GPU energy efficiency, not CPU performance.
It’s highly anticipated that Samsung will power the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. It seems that, instead of focusing on raw power, Qualcomm is prioritizing energy efficiency in this new processor. It is expected that this chip could come into existence later this year and be incorporated into Samsung’s top-tier phones early next year.
The report says that internal testing data showcased that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, produced by TSMC using its second-generation 3nm process node (N3E), is optimized, resulting in highly unlikely performance by the Adreno 750 graphics processing unit (GPU). The peak performance of the GPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 was slightly similar to the performance of the GPU of the Dimesity 9300 AP built by MediaTek, but at half the power consumption of the MediaTek chipset.
While it’s expected that the GPU could see beneficial upgrades, the CPU offers only a small performance boost compared to its predecessor. Although users prioritize CPU performance, this new change could trigger it. As a result, a few tech enthusiasts and giants are recommending waiting for the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset instead of the fourth generation for better CPU performance.
Noticeably, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 prioritizes energy efficiency over raw CPU power, but this leads to improved battery breathing and cooler temperatures for smartphones; for instance, the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It will be interesting to see what new novelties the upcoming Galaxy S25 will bring.
