Samsung Galaxy Users Must Update Phones Now, per US Government
Samsung Galaxy users, here’s an alert for you! The U.S. government has issued an emergency notice requiring federal employees to update their Samsung Galaxy phones by August 28.
Noticeably, the failure to comply will result in device deactivation. This directive follows a similar mandate for Google Pixel phones in July, pointing to the consequences of the security risks associated with these devices.
The US government’s emergency notice is prompted by the discovery of two crucial software vulnerabilities, which are as follows:
- CVE-2024-32896 and CVE-2024-29745
These two vulnerabilities have been exploited by hackers, and the risk of these is crucial and immediate. The software vulnerabilities on Samsung Galaxy devices can increase privileges, permitting malicious actors to access personal data. This poses an efficient risk to both individuals and organizations.
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has added the two software vulnerabilities to its known exploited vulnerabilities (KEV) list, highlighting their severity. The government has recommended that federal employees update their systems within 21 days.
The government clearly ordered federal employees to update Samsung Galaxy devices immediately. It’s also recommended that all Galaxy users, regardless of their role or affiliation, install the August security update immediately to avoid security risks and unauthorized access.
